would have been a 5/5 review if they didn't place me at the table where i specifically requested not to put me in, by the front door...my chair kept getting knocked on by passersby. this is my 3rd time being at Spruce, one being a weekend brunch and twice for dinner. I really liked the service this time around and would say Ryan has been the best. his tone and demeanor is welcoming and calming so 5 stars to him. My friend and I enjoyed all the dishes, flavor and taste was on point. the only suggestion I would give is to maybe serve warm bread if possible (it makes a difference). their menu changes per season so I will not go into specifics about each dish. Love the mood and overall atmosphere of the restaurant. minus my seating, would have been a perfect experience.

An outstanding evening at Spruce . A special shout out to Jordan the wine sommelier. He helped make our evening so enjoyable. And also to Ryan our server, who did a great job

The food here was amazing and so, so filling. My husband and I came to celebrate an anniversary and we had the best experience here. The food was unique and delicious, and it's obvious that the restaurant put in a lot of thought into the menu. The service was amazing too, our server was very nice and he constantly checked in with us throughout the meal. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated and it was pretty empty and quiet for brunch on a Saturday. We were so full after our time here that we joked we shouldn't eat dinner the night before if we wanted to come to Spruce again. Thank you for a memorable anniversary brunch!

Spruce is the kind of mainstay in San Francisco that hasn't gone out of style. You know exactly what to expect but the food and service is never boring or tacky. I made an impromptu reservation on a Wednesday night for my birthday. We were really well taken care of. All the food was delicious. Amuse was a savory cannoli and a cheese puff. The cannoli was dense but not heavy; the cheese puff was airy and delicious. The dining room serves a 3-course tasting menu for $125, with optional add-ons and enhancements. We got one of the specials - freshly shaved truffles over home-made egg noodles in parmesan sauce - to share after the first course. This was $40 additional. For appetizer, I chose the amberjack crudo and hubby got the stone fruit salad with prosciutto and burrata. It's summer so there was ample use of melon, which was delightful. For entree, I chose the lamb and hubby chose the peppercorn-crusted duck breast. Both were amazing. For dessert, they brought out a banana ice cream cake that I was not expecting. It was pretty good considering I do not like banana. I also had the lemon verbana granita and hubby had the chocolate tarte. Our server was wonderful and checked with us often. The rest of the staff kept our glasses and bread plates full. You can't go wrong with Spruce! PS: It's also a great place for people watching.

We had dinner for my best friends birthday here last night and let me just say this was one of the best dinners I've ever had. Our server Robin was a GEM the entire time and we all had the best things to say about her. Robin really made the evening so special and I hope when we come back we can see her again! It's so fancy in here but I felt fine in jeans and a nice top, there were some more casual diners and some more dressed up. The food! Was! AMAZING! I wish I had more of that brioche bread because I have not stopped thinking about it for almost 24 hours. The truffle pasta was divine. They grated the truffle right in front of us and I was drooling the whole time. The stone fruit salad was incredible, all the flavors together burst in my mouth. I loved it! Drinks were delicious, I got the Pamarosa I believe and it was *chefs kiss*. Chicken was some of the best I've had in my life, so so so soft with crispy skin. Divine!!! I cannot wait to come back, Spruce was absolutely incredible!

What do you do when you're run into somebody that you haven't seen in 35 years. You go to the closest restaurant to your house and have a drink at the bar along with some dessert and engage in conversation for almost 2 hours. So glad they have gotten rid of the outdoor seating which cheapened the experience here! I mean having foie gras outdoors on a foggy night just did not look worth it to me anymore especially since they opened their other restaurants across town! Still a big "corporate expense account" type restaurant in a residential neighborhood but to me the service is perfect here. On point but California casual.

Celebrating my uncle's 60th at Spruce was a culinary delight! My third burger there wasn't as amazing as before, maybe because the other dishes stole the show. The rib eye, white asparagus, and peas were exceptional, and the desserts, especially the chocolate tartelette, were divine. The ambiance was sophisticated with stylish decor, moody lighting, and a stunning bar. My mocktail was exquisite and well-crafted. Though I wished our seats were further from other tables, that's city dining for you. Next time, I'll be sure to make a reservation. Spruce was the perfect spot for our celebration. Truly a top-notch dining experience!

Hoping to make Spruce a part of our date night rotation at some point! What a wonderful spot for celebrating occasions or just going out to eat a nice dinner with your friends or loved ones. Spruce doesn't play around when it comes to ambiance. The building is an old car barn from the 30s that they've repurposed (I love adaptive reuse!) with a gorgeous arched masonry façade. Upon walking through the recessed entry, you're flanked on either side by views of their bakery and a smaller, more private dining area that looks directly out onto the street, previewing what is to come. When my partner and I entered the restaurant, I immediately noticed all of the beautiful artwork and the amazing lighting design of the space. Spruce walks the line between your typical fine dining experience and a more adventurous dining experience with fun menu offerings and service that feels uniquely catered to you. The staff that served us through the night were wonderful and they made us feel so welcomed the entire time. Special touches like a card at our table and a wonderful dessert for the occasion made our anniversary dinner feel quite special. After we were seated, our servers offered us several different drink options, including a few non-alcoholic drinks. We ended up ordering two non-alcoholic drinks including a cucumber lime cocktail and a blackberry cocktail. They were the perfect addition to the rich menu offerings. We were then offered several bread options, of which we chose an olive bread slice and a Parker house roll. Both of these were also quite good. After that, we enjoyed an amuse-bouche of crackers with mushrooms and beetroot purée as well as a mushroom gougère (which was delicious!). My partner and I took two separate approaches to the menu. I ordered the sunchoke velouté, the binchotan-grilled wagyu ribeye, and the apple tatin while he ordered the Nantes carrot fagottini, the pan-roasted striped bass, and the blood orange creamsicle. Everything, from the meats down to the sauces, was exceptionally well-prepared. I felt as though any combination of options would've resulted in a cohesive, satisfying meal. While everything was wonderful, my highlights were the binchotan-grilled Wagyu ribeye and the Apple Tatin. They offered me the option to have the ribeye cap of the steak, which I took. It was a perfectly melt-in-your-mouth consistency complemented by the savory, silky, umami bordelaise sauce. The Apple Tatin took me by surprise with the timut peppercorn gelato! It was slightly floral and citrusy with a grapefruit-like taste and scent. It was like nothing I've tasted before and certainly a star of the meal! After everything, we received a complimentary anniversary dessert and a few tasty mignardises! The dessert featured a chocolate mousse, ice cream, some chocolate sponge (I think?), and a mousse-filled mini chocolate cannoli. It was a very welcome gift to finish off the night. I can't wait to go back to Spruce. It was a truly enjoyable experience!
